DESIGN: Graphics, Artwork, Site Template, Style Guide

A visually appealing graphic design will be created for the website using client provided photos and artwork, photographs taken by Digital Design in support of the project, stock photos, and customized design elements. The design will have a common theme and your organization's brand throughout the website and remain consistent from area to area. A style guide will also be created with chosen web fonts, colors, font sizes and additional element specific information such as borders, rollover activity and other HTML attributes.

The website will be designed with the typical web user in mind. Nearly 80% of web users have screen resolutions of 1024x768 or higher. All elements of the website will be tested on the major browsers on PC and Mac computers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari). Once the design has been approved, the graphics will be exported and arranged as a master template that will be used throughout the website. Variations on the design elements can be accomplished through Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for unique styling attached to individual areas of the website.

PAGE DEVELOPMENT: DATABASE TECHNOLOGY

The dynamic nature of the websites that Digital Design Services creates will require a database to support the Content Management System and underlying code base of the development process.

MySQL is the world’s most popular open source database. It is a consistent, secure, fast, reliable and scalable solution. Some of the current users of MySQL for high-volume websites include Google, Yahoo! and YouTube. MySQL runs on a variety of computer platforms including Windows, Linux and OS/X. PAGE DEVELOPMENT: PHP CODE BASE

Websites that Digital Design Services creates will be programmed using XHTML web standard code with dynamic server-side scripting using the PHP development language. Using PHP and MySQL together allow us to create powerful and interactive websites that engage the user.

We choose to develop in PHP over other scripting technologies such as ASP.NET and Classic ASP because of the increased performance, extensibility and out-of-the-box feature set that are suited for a high-traffic website.

PAGE DEVELOPMENT: CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Websites that we build will utilize a Content Management System (CMS) for your staff to update the web content easily and from any computer that is connected to the Internet. The CMS will be protected from the general public by a security check system that will require login and password access credentials. Extra security measures can be applied if requested, such as IP address limitation, second level security questions and shortened session timeouts.

The CMS can be coded to be Access-Level intelligent, meaning that users with different permissions are recognized and only allowed to access the information for which they are responsible to update. For example, the one set of users can be limited to only be able to update the news blog and social networking items.

Recognizing the need for a simple way to be able to format the text and content on the website, we provide a Rich Text Editor with the CMS to allow simple, “Word”-like editing of text, the ability to easily upload in-line photos, graphics, documents and links. Many of the formatting options found in Microsoft Word® are also available within the Rich Text Editor.
